After much anticipation, it was Carter’s turn to receive his KiwiCo crate! If you missed my previous post about KiwiCo crates, you can check out Charlotte’s Panda Crate here.
As a quick recap, KiwiCo crates are age-appropriate boxes of activities curated to help parents and kids have fun learning at home. KiwiCo crates come in 8 age ranges, from 0 all the way up to 104. Depending on the age, crates ship every month or every other month.
KiwiCo Koala Crate Benefits
Carter turned 4 in March, so he received the Koala Crate for ages 2-4. The Koala Crate is designed to give preschoolers exposure to new materials, tools, techniques, and concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun. I like that we’re exploring fine motor skills and sensory learning in addition to science concepts about color.
As a teacher, I love that it has easy-t0-follow directions and tips for parents. PLUS everything you need is inside the box, so no hunting around the house for additional supplies.
KiwiCo Koala Crate Rainbow
This crate came with directions, 3 rainbow themed activities, and a rainbow themed magazine for Carter.
If you’re usually intimated by projects like this, don’t be! The directions are awesome. I separated the materials for each of the three projects into piles and let Carter choose which one he wanted to do first.
Carter really wanted to do the stained glass art first. This is actually very similar to a project I used to do in my classroom for Mother’s Day. He helped punch out the shapes and sort our tissue paper squares, which is great for fine motor practice. He designed his art on the white piece of paper first and then transferred his design to the sticky paper. In case you’re wondering, it’s an alien spaceship. He was way proud to hang it in the front window!
He was having so much fun, we kept it rolling right on to project two. This one is essentially tie dye without the mess. His creation is currently drying overnight and he’s looking forward to seeing the completed bag and adding the felt stickers tomorrow.
His last project is this cloud and rainbow pillow. I didn’t anticipate using our whole box up in one sitting, but Carter was sure determined to! Unfortunately our timing was off and Charlotte woke up from her nap before we could complete this one, so we saved it for the next day. I think he asked me a dozen times if it was time yet. I’m not sure how, but we managed to lose the violet rainbow during assembly. I’m sure it will turn up somewhere, and in the meantime he doesn’t seem to mind. He’s been “napping” on his pillow all around the house.

Overall I was incredibly pleased with our first box. I’ve already taken a peek at the next box and Carter is going to be PUMPED about that theme as well…. the farm!
