As a quick recap, KiwiCo crates are age-appropriate boxes of activities curated to help parents and kids have fun learning at home. KiwiCo crates come in eight age ranges, from 0 all the way up to 104. Depending on the age, crates ship every month or every other month. Carter receives the KiwiCo Koala Crate for ages 2-4.
KiwiCo Koala Crate: Dinosaur Theme
Carter was pumped to discover our Koala Crates on the doorstep this month. Because his and Charlotte’s were delivered together, the box was HUGE to him. ;) He wasted no time tearing into his to see what the theme would be.
It was DINOSAURS! I didn’t know if we’d be able to top the farm from last month, but this did the trick. After taking everything out, he crawled into my lap to look at the directions for all his projects. We also read the magazine before diving in.
I love that everything you need is included and has easy-to-follow directions that we can ready together. Could you do some of these projects on your own? Sure. But this is WAY simple and always has great ideas to extend learning too. If you go online, there are suggestions for other dinosaur-related activities you can do on your own. I think we’re going to do the ice excavation soon!
Project One: Fossils
Carter decided to start with the fossil activity. This was a super simple project that he was mostly able to do on his own. First, he peeled each bone sticker off the backing and applied them to the dinosaur skeletons.
Then came the part he was most excited about… clay!

Just look at his face when he peels the clay up and discovers the dinosaur imprint. We had to leave the fossils to dry overnight and I promise you… they were the first thing he checked when he woke up the next morning. He asked if we could get more clay to make extra fossils. YES! Yes, we can.
Project Two: Dinosaur Costume
Carter loves to dress up, so I was pretty sure this project would be a hit. It was another simple project that he was mostly able to do alone. I showed him the picture to give him an idea of how the completed project might look, but then I turned him loose.
I dare you not to smile at this ferocious dino!

Project Three: Dino Match Game
This month our third project was actually a game. Carter discovered the spinner right away, ha! Taking turns, making matches, and cheering each other on are all important skills. He was also thrilled to use the little dinosaur tokens as footprints all around our house, which he then followed in his dinosaur costume. So fun!
