It’s finished! The nesting is over and our little man has a place to grow up. Confession: I had dozens of ideas for baby girl nurseries and zip, zero, zilch for little boys. I didn’t want anything overly themed, but I did want it to have personality. I think I looked at a million pictures on Pinterest and places like Pottery Barn, Land of Nod, and Etsy. Then I found the Pottery Barn Hamptons Whale nursery quilt and knew I could work with that. My husband and I are beach-lovers and were married in the Outer Banks. We hope our little boy loves our beach vacations and the ocean as much as we do. Seems fitting to get him started early.
I didn’t want everything to be too matchy-matchy though, so I made it my mission to begin collecting the perfect pieces for Carter’s room. I was thinking reclaimed wood, sailboats, whales, and anchors. The end result? A mix of items that resulted in a nautical {but not too nautical} nursery that was budget-friendly too. I’ll put all sources I have below at the end of this post.
The painting was the hardest part. I grossly underestimated how boring it is to watch paint dry. We used Sherwin Williams Dhurrie Beige as our base color and accented with Sherwin Williams Regatta and Sherwin Williams Reflecting Pool. I absolutely love the teal Reflecting Pool. I kind of want to paint it in every room of our house somewhere. I highly recommend Yellow Frog tape for stripes. Learned that the hard way, so don’t make our same mistake if you want super crisp lines.
Here’s the full tour:
I love envisioning what Carter will be like and see him playing in his room as he gets older. Of course, I’m also envisioning all the sleepless nights and diaper changes that will go on in here too. The teacher in me especially loves his reading corner. I’ve ordered a gray stripe Land of Nod canvas bin to put beside his chair, but it’s on backorder. Story of my life. 😉
Carter will be sleeping with us in our room when he comes home, but his crib is ready. We’ll remove the decor when he’s actually ready to sleep in here. I sewed his name cuddle blanket, which will go in his carseat with him when we’re on the road.
A few of my favorite details–
I hope little man loves his room! I’ll share how I’ve organized his nursery closet and dresser {so many tiny baby clothes!} just as soon as I get the rest of my back-ordered bins.
