It’s Charlotte’s first Christmas, which means recreating many of our favorite “first Christmas” memories from Carter all over again. We started with DIY footprint crafts and ended with these sweet snow ladies that represent Charlotte’s height this Christmas. We made three so we could keep one and gift one to each set of grandparents.
We pretty much followed the same directions that I shared here for Carter’s, but I didn’t have any luck finding ready-made scarves or the fleece dog jackets for hats this year. Instead, I grabbed fleece fabric on sale at JOANN and made my own. It took one yard to make all three snow ladies. If you need to make your own accessories too, don’t let the “sewing” intimidate you; it’s super simple and doesn’t really count as sewing at all.
Accessory Directions
First, cut your decorative fabric approximately 10×14.
Then cut the accent fabric to 12×14. This will become the lining for the hat and also help the hat stand up nicely.
Fold the bottom half up so the decorative fabric is on the inside. Then sew along the top left edge (about an inch) to hold the two layers together. For reference, I stitched the corner where the pin is placed here. Remember, this isn’t an actual hat so any level of sewing will do here. You just need enough to keep the layers together for display. I just put a few stitches in by hand instead of pulling out my sewing machine.
Then turn your hat right side out again. After this, the steps are exactly the same as I did with Carter’s using the dog jackets. Tie a loop around the top of the fabric and snip to create fringe for the “ball” on top of the toboggan.
To make the matching scarf, I used a 12×46 piece of the decorative fabric. Fold it in half and tie it on. Done.
