2015 was an incredible year.
It was a year of professional growth. It was my first year working from home full time instead of my third grade classroom. Between Ms. Fultz’s Corner and Design by Christi, I keep myself busy.
It was a year of travel. My Jamberry business meant lots of travel this year to meet my team at our training events. The cities have blurred together, but the highlight was definitely my first passport stamp on our free incentive trip to Mexico.
It was a year of family. After four years of marriage, Ryan and I really hit our stride this year. We learned to navigate medical school just in time for him to graduate to residency. 😉 We crossed a big goal off our list and built our first home. Of course the biggest blessing was when we found out we’re having our first baby this spring.
It was a year of change. After a lot of reflection, it was time to set new goals and imagine new dreams while letting go of others I thought I’d chase my whole life. You know what they say… if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. I thought I had it figured out, but now I realize I’m still not sure what my purpose is, but I feel like I’m getting closer to it every day.
So 2016 has big shoes to fill, but my approach this year feels different. My husband always teased me that I’m a “gunner” and I go after what I want. I actually just Googled “gunner” as I’m writing this. The first thing that popped up, “A person who is competitive, overly-ambitious and substantially exceeds minimum requirements.” That pretty much hits the nail on the head, although I’m mostly competitive with myself.
But I’m taking a step back in the new year. I’m going with the flow. I’m taking the long way home. I’m going to say ‘no’ more often to others and ‘yes’ more often to myself and our family. I’m going to stop and enjoy more sunsets. I’m going to embrace each day. I’m going to hold our family {and our new baby on the way} a little closer. I’m going to accept the things I can’t change. And I’m going to believe wholeheartedly that I am exactly where I need to be.
Here’s to 2016.
